Santa Clara County hospital increases youth clinic services - San Jose Spotlight
Briefly

Santa Clara County is expanding the Pediatric Development Specialty Center at O'Connor Hospital to enhance care for youth with developmental disabilities. With patient visits increasing from 572 in 2021 to 2,712 in 2024, and the number of patients climbing from 291 to 1,560, the expansion will provide more space for clinical social workers, speech therapists, and psychologists. County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg emphasized the need to address long wait times for appointments, which can extend to a month. The center also aims to serve vulnerable youth, including those experiencing homelessness.
County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg noted, "That's not fair to the families," referring to the long wait times for doctor appointments at the Pediatric Development Specialty Center.
The center is set to expand to accommodate the quadrupled number of patient visits, growing from 572 to 2,712 from 2021 to 2024.
"When we purchased O'Connor Hospital, this was the opportunity to bring those services together in one location, which of course, makes it immensely more convenient for parents," Ellenberg said.
