Probe into children's hip surgery scandal could look back 15 years

Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill has announced that letters have been sent to families of patients who underwent hip dysplasia procedures since 2010. This development raises alarms of a growing scandal about potentially unnecessary surgeries. Families have begun receiving communications about operations from as far back as 15 years. Sinn Féin is preparing to demand transparency from the Government regarding the operations conducted at Children's Health Ireland (CHI), which has faced scrutiny over issues previously, including the surgical springs incident.

"Families are now receiving letters about operations on their children from 15 years ago, increasing the likelihood that a scandal over unnecessary surgery is about to deepen sharply."

"The Government will be asked today by Sinn Féin to 'come clean' on hip dysplasia operations carried out at hospitals under the remit of Children's Health Ireland (CHI)."
