New Hampshire has reached a $2.25 million settlement with Crystal Sorey, the mother of Harmony Montgomery, after she filed a negligence lawsuit accusations against state social workers for failing to act on abuse signs from her ex-husband. Adam Montgomery, Harmony's father, is serving a minimum of 56 years for her murder, which occurred nearly two years prior to her reported disappearance. The state does not admit wrongdoing in the agreement, which aims to resolve litigation and provide closure to the affected families.
The state agreed to these settlements to avoid prolonged litigation and support closure for the families. We recognize their profound loss and hope this brings some measure of peace.
Crystal Sorey filed a negligence lawsuit against the state last May accusing social workers of ignoring signs that her daughter was being physically abused by her ex-husband after he was awarded custody in early 2019.
