High Schoolers Continue CoolineKids' Free Campus for Youth
Briefly

After the unexpected passing of Christian Sbragia, who founded CoolineKids to provide safe summer camp opportunities for low-income kids in East Palo Alto, local high school students have taken charge to continue his mission. The new leadership team, composed of former camp workers, has organized diverse activities such as cooking and robotics to engage youth from K-8th grade. Their commitment honors Sbragia's legacy as a mentor and leader, ensuring that children in the community have access to a safe and educational environment during summer months.
"Christian was a mentor to me," said Srivastava. "For the three years that I worked with him, he taught me everything about running an organization, from writing grants to creating the camp programming. The time he spent personally investing in me is why we are able to continue this program."
Filipek said she admired how Sbragia was able to start a camp from scratch when he was just a kid and said that being able to speak Spanish helped her build trust and make sure every family felt included.
