Genshin Impact introduces age-gating as part of loot box crackdown
Briefly

Genshin Impact will implement an age verification system for U.S. players by July as part of a $20 million FTC settlement concerning its gacha mechanics. This system will ensure that players under 16 cannot purchase loot boxes without parental consent. Failure to verify age will result in account suspension and loss of chat history. While children under 16 may still access the game, they won’t be able to make loot box purchases independently. The settlement also compels HoYoverse to disclose odds and provide a direct payment option for loot boxes.
Genshin Impact will require all U.S. players to verify their age by July to comply with a settlement regarding its gacha mechanics and child protection.
Under the settlement, HoYoverse cannot sell loot boxes to children under 16 without parental consent, reaffirming accountability over targeted marketing and purchases.
