Food Insecurity A Major Challenge For Central Coast Farmworkers | KQED
Briefly

As California's harvest season begins, approximately 800,000 farmworkers contribute to a $60 billion agriculture industry, yet many still lack sufficient food. Ann López advocates for their rights and spearheads food distribution efforts through the Center for Farmworker Families. Partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank, they provide essential resources to support overworked farmworkers, illustrating the stark contrast between agricultural success and the hunger faced by those who work the land. This support network helps alleviate some of the burdens faced by farmworker families during these challenging times.
"I found a family hungry in this community. The kids were crying because they were so hungry. And I thought, we're not gonna do this," says López. "This is immoral."
López called Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz County to figure out a solution to feeding the farmworker community, which has led to substantial food support.
