Samantha Emge, a 22-year-old college graduate, was fatally shot by her boyfriend Nation Wood, a former Biden staffer, in their San Francisco apartment. Emge's father described Wood as an angry, abusive drunk, stating that Emge had been trying to leave him. Despite staging an intervention, Emge was unable to break up with Wood. Wood claimed the shooting was accidental, but doubts were raised about this assertion. Emge had recently moved into Wood's apartment just days before her death.
