"Then it was time to hop a bus to catch the tail end of the OM Records 30th anniversary party in Embarcadero Plaza. Classic DJ Mark Farina brought the roiling, happy-faced crowd funky, jazzy house classics-including one sampling late Digital Underground legend Shock G. -bringing true Bay Area bona fides to bear in the golden slant of late afternoon sun."
A sunny Saturday in San Francisco brought a mix of cultural events and music. Union Square hosted the Taiwanese American Cultural Festival with traditional music, T-pop newcomers, and food including dragon boat dumplings, cold sesame noodles, and mee sua. After long food lines, the day continued at the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival opening day, where salsa and joyful performances filled the park. The festival offered a strong lineup across summer weekends, with acts such as Gamelan Sekar Jaya, Circus Bella, and Destiny Muhammad Trio. The festival also honored Marcelo Avilés, who passed away earlier in the year. Later, a bus ride led to OM Records’ 30th anniversary party in Embarcadero Plaza, featuring DJ Mark Farina and funky, jazzy house classics.
