Shakuhachi Concert inside Japanese Tea Garden (Golden Gate Park)
"Koga-sensei's unique ability to translate the ephemerality of true artistry into a precise language of body and spirit awareness invites both his students and audience members to connect with original sound, a quality of performing and listening that moves us beyond the ego's need to control and analyze."
Masayuki Koga, a shakuhachi master, and the Japanese Music Institute of America's performing ensemble present a live concert at the Japanese Tea Garden Pagoda in Golden Gate Park on Saturday, March 7th from 2-3pm. Koga's approach emphasizes translating artistic ephemerality into precise body and spirit awareness, enabling students and audience members to engage with original sound and authentic listening experiences that transcend ego-driven analysis and control. The concert is free with Japanese Tea Garden admission. San Francisco residents with valid ID receive free entry; otherwise adult admission is $18.
