"Unsilent Night is a participatory sound artwork by composer Phil Kline, an ethereal, electronic soundscape played by the audience on boomboxes carried through city streets. Each participant gets one of four tracks of music in the form of a MP3 or through the app. All four tracks played simultaneously comprise Unsilent Night. Bring a boombox, portable speaker, or anything that amplifies music, loaded with one of the piece's four tracks."
"Please arrive at Mission Dolores Park (by the tennis courts at the corner of 18th & Dolores) by 7 pm, ready to "Hit Play" for the 7:20 pm liftoff! We will complete the 60 minute stroll back at Mission Dolores Park. This is a free, public event for all ages. The more participants, the better it sounds, so please invite your friends."
Unsilent Night is a participatory sound artwork performed as a moving soundscape in which participants carry portable speakers or boomboxes playing one of four synchronized tracks. Participants download an MP3 or use the app to select one of the four parts, arrive with an amplified playback device, and start simultaneously to create a layered ambient composition while walking a predetermined route. San Francisco meetups include a Mission walk meeting at Mission Dolores Park on Saturday, December 13, 2025 (arrive 7:00 pm, liftoff 7:20 pm) and a Pacific Heights event at Golden Gate Valley Library on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 (6–7 pm). The events are free and public; larger participation improves the sound.
