"Marin Symphony's new music director, Fawzi Haimor(Courtesy of Marin Symphony) Born in Chicago to a Filipina mother and Jordanian-Lebanese father, Haimor's open-hearted approach to music-making reflects his international upbringing. He served as music director of Germany's Wurttembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen from 2017 to 2020 and has appeared with ensembles including the BBC Philharmonic, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, and the Pittsburgh Symphony, where he was previously associate conductor."
Fawzi Haimor begins his inaugural season as Marin Symphony music director with Masterworks I: Liszt & Brahms on November 8–9 at the James Dunn Theatre, College of Marin. The program opens with John Psathas's contemporary Tarantismo, features principal pianist John Wilson in Liszt’s Hungarian Fantasy and Totentanz, and closes with Brahms’s Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Haimor brings an international perspective shaped by a Filipina mother and Jordanian-Lebanese father and previous leadership in Germany. Programming under his leadership emphasizes diverse repertoire, community engagement, education, and expanded reach during the Symphony’s 74th season.
