Whole Foods Sees Empty Shelves After Distributor Hacked | Entrepreneur
Briefly

Whole Foods is experiencing significant supply shortages as a result of a cyberattack on its main distributor, United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI). UNFI, which collaborates with over 11,000 suppliers, reported that its systems were compromised, leading to empty shelves across Whole Foods stores. Customers have expressed their frustration as social media highlights these issues. UNFI is actively addressing the disruption and aims to restore normal operations by June 15, while Whole Foods employees are taking advantage of the situation to deep-clean storage areas that are typically overstocked.
Videos are starting to appear on TikTok, where viewers can see a notice posted on shelves that says the grocer is experiencing a "temporary out-of-stock issue."
A Whole Foods employee in Arkansas told CNN their "frozen cooler is empty, our bread hearth is bare, and customers are increasingly upset."
The company reported $31 billion in annual revenues in August 2024.
In a statement, UNFI said it is working closely with its customers, suppliers, and associates "to minimize disruption as much as possible."
