After more than thirty years, Muddy Waters Coffee House plans to sell to Marcos Senghor, owner of Bissap Baobab. Although no lease is signed yet, Senghor aims to bring live entertainment and extended hours. The Massarweh couple are currently negotiating with Senghor, marking a significant transition from their ownership. The relationship between Senghor and the owners has a long history, and he wishes to preserve their legacy while revitalizing the café. Future plans for the café are welcomed by local business associates, despite Muddy Waters not being a registered legacy business.
"It's almost like we're coming back to the beginning," said Senghor. "We want to try to make sure his legacy doesn't shut down, stay and try to grow hopefully."
Senghor said the negotiations began after he heard the cafe was about to shut down. The possibility of saving the business felt like saving a little piece of the Mission District, he said.
