Over the past three decades, San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood has transformed from an industrial hub into tech offices galore - but if there's one thing that's stayed the same, it's Mars Bar & Restaurant. Change may finally be afoot for the neighborhood bar, though: Co-owners David Kiely and Keith Cochrane have put it up for sale.
Kiely said that he hopes the new owner will keep the Mars Bar name. Currently, he is attempting to get Mars Bar designated as a legacy business, which would provide it some special protections.
The bar and restaurant's asking price, which includes a full liquor and entertainment license, is $400,000.
While Mars Bar originally had a space theme, it's now known for its two large outdoor patios, burgers and BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, as well as live entertainment in the form of burlesque shows, salsa nights and drag brunches.
