Albertsons Companies has continued closing grocery stores across multiple states as it reevaluates its store footprint following a failed merger with Kroger. In 2026, at least a dozen locations have closed or been marked for closure based on local reporting, online review platforms, and the company’s store locator tools. Closures affect several banners, including Acme, Balducci’s, Randalls, Safeway, Vons, and Albertsons-branded stores. More than half of the closures are in California and Texas, with additional closures in New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Washington, D.C. Albertsons ended fiscal 2025 with 2,244 physical stores, down 26 from the prior year. The company expects a net positive store count by the end of fiscal 2026.
