Transgender college student stabbed to death in Seattle - LGBTQ Nation
"Police in Seattle are searching for a suspect in the stabbing death of a transgender woman believed to be a student at the University of Washington. According to local news reports, officers with the Seattle Police Department arrived at Nordheim Court, an off-campus housing complex affiliated with the university, shortly after 10pm on Sunday, May 10. They found the 19-year-old victim in the laundry room of the complex's Building 7, NBC News reports. She was pronounced dead at the scene."
"SPD is looking for a suspect, described in a blotter report as a Black male with a beard believed to be between 5'6" and 5'8" tall, who was last seen wearing a dark blue vest over a button-up shirt with blue jeans. Additionally, the university described the suspect as having a slim build and black hair, and likely between the ages of 25 and 30, according to ABC News. Investigators do not believe the suspect is a UW student, KPTV reports, and it is still unclear whether the stabbing was a targeted attack."
"“There are no words that can express the profound loss of a student,” UW President Robert Jones said in a statement expressing condolences to the victim's family and loved ones. “While investigators have not yet identified a suspect or a motive, I want to recognize that when violence affects a trans person it can be especially worrying to our LGBTQIA+ community members.”"
"UW Spokesperson Victor Balta said the university is working with Greystar, the company that operates the Nordheim Court complex, “to ensure residents there are receiving support and resources in light of this tragedy.” SPD is asking anyone with information about the murder to call its Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000. The victim's family has reportedly been notified. However, police have not publicly identified her."
