"For the last few weeks, in our series Love You for You , we've been bringing you conversations between transgender and nonbinary kids and the people in their lives who love and support them so they can thrive. This week, we hear excerpts from two longer conversations we're dropping on -year-old transgender Zen Blossom, who works at a Black trans cultural center, our podcast between young people in their 20s and transgender elders, whose lives reflect the long arc of transgender activism here in California."
"Quetzali, left, places their hand on Donna Personna's hand as Donna speaks about her life, at her home in San Francisco on Nov. 6, 2025. (Gina Castro/KQED) Listen to this and more in-depth storytelling by subscribing to The California Report Magazine podcast. Quetzali, a 23-year-old Latinx nonbinary organizer from Sacramento, talks to 79 Chicana activist Donna Personna. And speaks with Andrea Horne, an actress, jazz singer, historian and social worker."
Conversations connect transgender and nonbinary young people with elders who have long histories of activism. The exchanges reveal personal histories, cultural roots, and the continuing fight for visibility and community support in California. Participants include Zen Blossom, a transgender worker at a Black trans cultural center; Quetzali, a 23-year-old Latinx nonbinary organizer; Donna Personna, a 79-year-old Chicana activist; and Andrea Horne, an actress, jazz singer, historian and social worker. The interactions emphasize mutual care, intergenerational learning, resilience, and the role of cultural institutions and podcasts in sharing lived experiences and sustaining transgender community networks.
