Terrence Howard passed on Marvin Gaye biopic because he 'would've had' to kiss a man: 'I would cut my lips off'
Briefly

Terrence Howard revealed on Bill Maher's podcast that he declined to portray Marvin Gaye in a biopic directed by Lee Daniels after learning from Quincy Jones that Gaye was rumored to be gay. Despite being considered for the role, Howard felt uncomfortable with the prospect of playing a gay character, stating he couldn't portray someone authentically if that required kissing a man. He expressed his conviction that such an action would deeply affect him, drawing a clear boundary regarding his acting choices.
"I was over at Quincy Jones' house and I'm asking Quincy, 'I'm hearing rumors that Marvin was gay' and I'm like, 'Was he gay?' Quincy's like, 'Yes.'"
"They would've wanted to do that, and I wouldn't have been able to do that," Howard said of portraying a gay person.
"No. Because I don't fake it," Howard responded when asked about kissing a man on screen.
"I would cut my lips off. If I kissed some man, I would cut my lips off," Howard expressed about his discomfort.
