Summer of Pride: 17 parades, festivals and events celebrating the East Bay's LGBTQ+ communities
Briefly

In 2023, the Bay Area celebrates Pride with various events, including Berkeley's upcoming Pride festival on August 16, touted as the biggest in decades. Co-hosted by the Pacific Center for Human Growth, the festival aims to provide a welcoming environment for new students and the local queer community. Events throughout the summer include drag performances, story hours, and celebrations of house music culture. Many of these are free and focus on inclusivity and safety for all participants, particularly teens and families.
We want to create a space where people feel seen, heard and safe especially now. We're here and we're queer and we're here to stay, said Vanessa Serratos.
The festival coincides with UC Berkeley's move-in week, and Serratos said the center hopes it will serve as a welcoming space for new and returning students, especially those who are queer or questioning.
