"Scouting America alleges that the brand's use of the word 'scout' in its name dilutes the organization's trademarks, and that both its name and its use of its fox logo are meant to intentionally confuse customers by falsely associating it with the youth organization."
"It's really difficult to see how anyone could realistically confuse an LGBTQ tourism brand called Queer Scout with a youth scouting organization. We're a small LGBTQ-owned travel company for adults, and our name clearly signals we're not affiliated with Scouting America or any youth scouting organization."
Scouting America filed a federal lawsuit against Toro International LLC and Q Tours LLC, companies owned by Sam CastaƱeda Holdren, alleging trademark infringement and unfair competition. The dispute centers on Queer Scout, an LGBTQ+ travel brand offering adult experiences in Colombia, which Scouting America claims dilutes its trademarks through use of the word 'scout' and a pink fox logo similar to the youth organization's animal imagery. Holdren argues the brand name clearly distinguishes it as an adult tourism company unaffiliated with youth scouting. The lawsuit escalates a years-long private dispute between the parties that remained unresolved.
