HBO’s CEO Casey Bloys has asserted that JK Rowling's controversial views on trans rights will not influence the upcoming television adaptation of the Harry Potter series, which is set for release in 2026. Each of the seven books will receive its own full-length season, with Rowling serving as an executive producer. Despite criticism regarding the need for a new adaptation so soon after the last film in 2011, the series promises an all-new cast and a decade-long run on HBO. Bloys emphasized the network's long-standing relationship with Rowling and her entitlement to her views.
The decision to be in business with JK Rowling is not new for us. We've been in business for 25 years. We already have a show on HBO from her called C.B. Strike that we do with the BBC.
If you want to debate her, you can go on Twitter.
It's pretty clear that those are her personal, political views. She's entitled to her views.
The adaptation is reportedly due to run on TV for over a decade and will feature an entirely new cast, including John Lithgow as Dumbledore.
