Per Sia Is San Francisco's New Drag Laureate | KQED
"I am trans; I'm Latina; I am a product of immigrant parents; I'm a drag performer and an educator,"
"So my existence is on the line, but I don't let that dim my joy, because joy is my biggest resistance."
"Drag Out the Vote"
Per Sia was appointed San Francisco's drag laureate and will represent the city's drag scene, LGBTQ+ community and nightlife sector. Per Sia has performed in San Francisco for almost two decades and combines art with advocacy for diverse working-class and immigrant communities. Per Sia participates in Drag Queen Story Hour, a literacy program replicated in 20 states, and campaigns with initiatives such as "Drag Out the Vote." Per Sia is an elementary after-school arts educator by day and is the second person to hold the city's drag laureate position. A celebration will take place at Oasis on Nov. 30.
