Meet the first openly transgender woman to compete in the Miss Maine beauty pageant
Briefly

Isabelle St. Cyr, at age 24, will be the first transgender woman competing in the Miss Maine pageant, inspired by earlier trans representation in beauty pageants. Growing up in Howland, Maine, she was drawn to cheerleading as a form of inclusion among women. As a makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics, she helped other women find confidence, which contributed to her self-acceptance as a trans woman. St. Cyr owns a farm and aims to inspire other trans individuals by showing that they can pursue diverse dreams despite societal backlash.
"I'm really excited to be the voice for trans people in our state," said St. Cyr, who will be the first transgender woman to compete in the Miss Maine pageant.
"From a young age, I was inspired by the first transgender woman who competed in a Miss Universe organization pageant in 2012. That spurred me to chase my dream."
"I own a farm and I do pageants, which is quite the contrast of things to do. I want to show other trans women they can do whatever they want in life."
"Working as a makeup artist helped me find myself as a trans woman. I helped other women feel more confident, which in turn helped me build my own confidence."
