In "Magic Farm," directed by Amalia Ulman, Joe Apollonio plays Justin, a sound man who becomes entwined in the misadventures of a documentary crew mistakenly dispatched to Argentina. As they attempt to salvage their project by fabricating a documentary with locals, the team overlooks pressing issues in the town. Apollonio's portrayal of Justin showcases his charm and awkwardness as he navigates flirtations and misunderstandings, drawing on personal experiences to enrich his character. The film intertwines comedy with deeper themes of connection and communication.
I was attached to this film from the get-go... I helped her create my character... I can relate to Justin in that I've been in these flirtations and relationships that are ultimately star-crossed.
Watching the not-too-bright Justin get taken advantage of by a local store owner, or flirt with the unnamed hotel receptionist, is amusing. And he rocks his vintage costumes.
