"We are not closing until I receive notice that we're closing. These doors will stay open as long as we can keep them open. Despite its status as one of the oldest drag bars in the city, Crews & Tangos hasn't been able to shake rumours that it's closing for a condo development any day now."
"Development plans for this site are still under consideration, and we don't see any impact to the operation of this space for the foreseeable future. More recently, Graywood has struck a deal with the bar's new owners to keep them open at least until the current lease agreement is up in 2029."
Crews & Tangos, an iconic Toronto drag bar in the Gay Village for over 30 years, has dispelled closure rumors by securing its future under new ownership. Co-owner Troy Allan committed to keeping the venue open as a meaningful and safe queer space. The building's owner, Graywood Developments, originally planned a 14-storey redevelopment approved in 2022, then proposed a 48-storey mixed-use building that faced community opposition and was scrapped. Graywood has now reached an agreement with the bar's new owners to maintain operations through the current lease until 2029. Recent renovations include new lighting, fresh paint, and a modern point-of-sale system accepting card payments for the first time in the bar's history.
