"Back then, we still believed in this world. I guess it's easier to accept a story than believe that the people around you are monsters. This perspective from Agnes captures how those raised in Gilead internalized its ideology, accepting the regime's narrative rather than confronting the reality of those enforcing it."
"Daisy might have a little sedition and activism up her multiple layers of sleeves. The change of heart might also have a bit to do with teenage hormones, which seems to have her questioning the logic of the forced chastity the entire nation is subject to. Daisy's arrival introduces both external resistance and internal questioning of Gilead's fundamental control mechanisms."
The Testaments is a Hulu sequel series to The Handmaid's Tale that shifts perspective from June, who remembered life before Gilead, to characters like Agnes who were born into or grew up entirely within the totalitarian regime. Agnes initially accepted Gilead's narrative, but the arrival of Daisy, a new resident from Canada with activist tendencies, begins to challenge this acceptance. Daisy's presence, combined with teenage questioning of forced chastity policies, catalyzes a change in perspective among younger Gileadeans. Ann Dowd reprises her role as Aunt Lydia. The series premieres with three episodes on April 8, with subsequent weekly releases.
