DSPCA unveils new 'Meet and Greet' space aimed at enhancing connection with animals in dog adoption process
Briefly

A new dog rehoming space has been established, featuring a dedicated log cabin to create a relaxed atmosphere for prospective owners and rescue dogs. Inspired by successful event days at the DSPCA, the cabin encourages deeper connections through calm, home-like surroundings, moving away from the traditional kennel setting. Tanya Clarke, head of dog operations, explains that this environment allows for better understanding of dogs' personalities, promoting longer-lasting matches by enabling quality time between potential adopters and dogs, particularly those who might be initially fearful or nervous.
"We got the Meet and Greet cabin because we found that, sometimes, when dogs are in a shelter environment and people come up to meet them, they don't get a real feel for the dog's personality because the dogs are in such a distracting environment."
"We found that having a sitting-room environment allowed people to get to know the dogs a little bit better and see them in a more positive light."
