Sudan's humanitarian crisis has escalated to the world's largest due to a two-year civil war between the Sudanese army and the RSF, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and over 13 million displaced individuals. Humanitarian workers report increased sexual violence and ethnic attacks, as well as a rising hunger crisis. Prominent voices like Emtithal Mahmoud, a refugee, emphasize the urgent need for international attention and action, particularly after violent RSF attacks on refugee camps. Despite global efforts to address the situation, talks for peace have reportedly failed, leading to despair and hopelessness among those affected.
"They kidnapped 58 of the girls in my extended family, and we are still searching for them," says Mahmoud. "We need the world to pay attention."
"It is by far the worst displacement crisis in the world," notes Egeland.
