Moscow Mixing Up Body Parts And Sending Russian Remains, Complicating Identification Of War Dead, Ukraine Charges
Briefly

Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko has accused Russia of deliberately complicating the identification of repatriated remains of Ukrainian soldiers by sending mutilated bodies and mixing body parts of different individuals. The latest repatriation, which involved 1,245 bodies on June 16, has made the already challenging process of matching remains with names even more tedious. Additionally, Klymenko indicated that some bodies of Russian soldiers were included in this repatriation, further complicating the task. This follows the establishment of agreements during peace talks in Istanbul, highlighting the ongoing complexities of the conflict.
"And Russia is also deliberately making the identification process difficult for us. Bodies are returned in an extremely mutilated state, parts of [the same] bodies in different bags."
"In addition, during the latest repatriations, the bodies of Russian soldiers were also transferred to us -- mixed with the bodies of Ukrainians."
"Identifying the bodies of what Moscow says are Ukrainian soldiers is a 'complex and lengthy' process involving autopsies, DNA investigations, and other procedures."
"The agreement on the repatriation of remains was reached by the sides on June 2 at one of two meetings in Istanbul, the first direct peace talks since inconclusive negotiations held in the weeks just after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022."
