Is Russia simulating diplomacy' because of war losses in Ukraine?
President Putin referenced a ceasefire while some analysts viewed it as a tactic to gain time as Russian forces faced setbacks. Kyiv experienced frequent bombardment, while Moscow residents had largely felt safe, but that safety appeared to be changing. At least three people, including an Indian citizen, were killed in a drone strike on Moscow on Sunday. Russia’s Ministry of Defence said it shot down more than 1,000 drones in 24 hours. The attacks followed a Russian assault on Kyiv that killed 24. Putin suggested the war in Ukraine may soon end and offered to meet Zelenskyy in a neutral country to sign peace accords, while stating victory would be Russia’s. Skepticism grew because earlier promises of ending fighting did not materialize and a ceasefire and prisoner exchange did not fully occur.
