The women's 100m final will headline the first day of competition at Los Angeles 2028, with all three rounds of the 100m taking place on the same day. US sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson welcomed the decision as evidence that track and field is having its moment. Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith described the decision as an exciting opportunity celebrating the legacy, strength and global power of women's sprinting exactly 100 years after women first competed in Olympic track and field. World Athletics consulted athletes, arranged the schedule to enable common doubles, will stage ten days at the LA Coliseum, debut a mixed 100m relay and finish with three days of road events.
