Renee adds to Regis legacy with first UK title
"It is a mix of the lessons from my coaches and my parents," she said. "I take in all that they say, so they are all a big help to me. I didn't expect to run that fast in the semi-final. My coaches told me to hit it and commit, so that's exactly what I did. It made me confident going into the final."
""It was quite funny to see my dad was presenting me with the medal," Renee told BBC Sport. "He didn't tell me he was doing it.""
Renee Regis, 20, won the women's 200m at the UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 22.95 seconds, claiming her first senior British title. Her father John Regis presented the gold medal. John Regis won the world indoor 200m in 1989 and earned world outdoor silver and an outdoor European title. Her mother Jennifer Stoute won 4x400m bronze at the 1992 Olympics. Regis ran 23.22 in the heat, the year's best by a UK athlete, and a championship-record 22.89 in the semi-final. Jeremiah Azu won the men's 200m in 20.77s, completing a sprint double.
