Marathon record holder gets 3-year doping ban
"MONACO -- Track and field's Athletics Integrity Unit said Thursday that women's marathon world record-holder Ruth Chepng'etich has been banned for three years after admitting a doping violation. The AIU said Chepng'etich admitted to anti-doping rule violations over the presence and use of the banned diuretic hydrochlorothiazide. She had been suspended in July. The Kenyan runner broke the world record by almost two minutes at the Chicago Marathon last year in 2 hours, 9 minutes, 56 seconds."

Ruth Chepng'etich received a three-year competition ban after admitting an anti-doping rule violation involving the banned diuretic hydrochlorothiazide. The Athletics Integrity Unit confirmed the admission of presence and use of the substance and noted that she had been suspended in July. Chepng'etich held the women's marathon world record following her Chicago Marathon victory, recording 2 hours, 9 minutes, 56 seconds and lowering the mark by almost two minutes. The suspension and subsequent ban remove her from competition for the specified period under anti-doping regulations enforced by the AIU.
