HOKA Mach X 3 vs HOKA Mach X 2
"The Mach X 3 and X 2 have the exact same sole units so the ride is the same. They have dual-density midsoles with a soft layer of PEBA on the top and a firmer layer of EVA on the bottom. The PEBA provides excellent energy return and comfort while the EVA provides structure and durability. The Mach X has a versatile ride character and it's suitable for easy runs up to really fast, V02 Max workouts."
"There's a flexible Pebax plate in the middle of the sole for extra propulsion and improved stability. The plate extends out on the lateral side of the midsole to offer more lateral stability. The Pebax plate is much more flexible than a carbon plate so it feels more natural at slow paces. On the outsole, there's compression-moulded sticky rubber for excellent traction, even in wet weather."
The Mach X 3 retains the same sole units as the X2 with a dual-density midsole: a soft PEBA top layer for energy return and comfort and a firmer EVA bottom layer for structure and durability. The shoe offers a versatile, lively ride suitable for easy runs through V02 Max workouts and even racing, though its heel stack over 40 mm disqualifies it from World Athletics competition. A meta-rocker geometry and a flexible Pebax plate aid transitions, propulsion, and lateral stability. The outsole uses compression-moulded sticky rubber for wet traction but exhibits faster wear than typical rubbers. The Mach X 3 upper is smoother and more structured in the heel, improving comfort and lockdown, with additional tongue padding.
