A new animated map engine for Ruby renders real basemaps, draws GIS layers, and animates moving objects entirely on the backend. The engine is built on top of ruby-libgd and libgd-gis and supports animated entities such as cars, routes, and planes without requiring JavaScript or WebGL. Server-side rendering enables Ruby applications to generate rasterized map frames for web responses, video export, or static image generation. The release is available as an alpha preview ahead of ruby-libgd 0.2.3 and upcoming libgd-gis releases. A demo and full technical details are available online.
