Recent local elections showcased a change as candidates opposing these bans won against conservative incumbents. The Mansfield Independent School District saw a decisive win for opponent Ana-Alicia Horn, who garnered over 60% of the votes. This victory reflects growing community resistance to censorship, as schools navigate the complexities of book selection and the ongoing debate about access to diverse literature.

The 2022-23 academic year alone saw around 625 books banned in Texas, focusing primarily on works with LGBTQ themes or featuring people of color.
