A violent clash occurred outside NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani's official residence when an anti-Islam rally called Stop the Islamic Takeover was met with a counterprotest. During the confrontation, 18-year-old Emir Balat allegedly jumped on commentator Walter Masterson's back and threw an ignited explosive device at anti-Islam demonstrators while shouting Allahu Akbar. Masterson recorded the incident and posted it to social media. Six men were arrested in connection with the violence. Law enforcement, including the NYPD and FBI, investigated the incident as a possible act of terrorism after discovering multiple suspects admitted to being ISIS-inspired. The anti-Islam protest was organized by Jake Lang, a pardoned January 6 rioter and far-right influencer.
