"He is often described as the most radical face of Germany's far-right AfD party, has called for the "remigration" of foreigners and been convicted of using a banned Nazi slogan. But Björn Höcke, 53, head of the Alternative for Germany in the eastern state of Thuringia, is convinced he is on the correct path amid a lurch to the right around the Western world led by US President Donald Trump."
"Höcke said he sees a lot of "common ground" between the AfD and the Trump administration, especially on social issues such as "the fight against wokeism" and against what he labels the "politicisation of the judiciary". "In Germany, (the judiciary) is no longer independent in some areas," he said, referencing his own conviction over the Nazi slogan -- which he insists was politically motivated."
Björn Höcke is the regional chairman of Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Thuringia and is widely identified as the party's most radical figure. He advocates 'remigration' of foreigners and cites US President Donald Trump's policies as an example for Germany. Höcke has been convicted for using the banned Nazi slogan 'Alles fuer Deutschland' and insists his conviction was politically motivated. The Thuringia AfD regional chapter has been designated a right-wing extremist organisation by domestic intelligence. The AfD won over 30 percent in the Thuringia state election and scored 20.8 percent nationally. Höcke emphasizes common ground with the Trump administration on fighting 'wokeism' and alleging a politicised judiciary.
