The National Shared Services Office (NSSO) revealed administrative errors leading to incorrect pension deductions affecting up to 13,000 retired civil servants and ministers. Sums owed to the State range from €100 up to €30,000. Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers stressed the need for full recoupment of owed funds, while Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty raised concerns about oversight in the agency responsible for pension disbursements. NSSO is set to engage with individuals to arrange payments, as the full extent of the issues is being evaluated.
They will be informed in the coming days of the sums to be repaid, ranging from as low as €100 up to €30,000.
Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers said he will ensure "all monies owed to the State are fully recouped".
Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty said there are "serious questions" over the oversight of the agency "responsible for putting taxpayers' money into the pockets of very highly paid, with golden pensions, senior civil servants."
Mr Chambers said the errors span different time periods and have been detected in various ways.
