A family relocated from upstate New York to South Carolina for a career opportunity, hoping for a smoother integration into their new surroundings. Initially, they encountered positive aspects but soon felt substantial regrets. Their transition coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, which further complicated forming social connections. Their children faced challenges making friends during remote schooling, leading to increased isolation. Despite a desire for community integration, feelings of being out of place persisted six years after their move.
