A traveler flew from Cairns to Florida to visit an American man she met while scuba diving. After a long journey with multiple layovers she arrived exhausted and felt washed-out. In an airport bathroom she asked a glamorous flight attendant to borrow lipstick. The attendant pulled a brand-new tube from her purse and told her she could keep it. Applying the lipstick immediately boosted the traveler's confidence and encouraged her to go meet the man in the pickup area. The traveler kept the lipstick for years as a reminder of the attendant's generous, selfless gesture.
I was taking stock of my washed-out appearance in the airport bathroom mirror when a very glamorous flight attendant strolled in. She was putting on some lipstick and, not having remembered to pack any of my own, I bemoaned how terrible I looked and asked her if I could borrow some. I wouldn't normally have asked someone for their lipstick, because it's such a personal thing, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
