Dog owners can be as close to their pets as to their children, study shows
Briefly

A study conducted by researchers at Eotvos Lorand University revealed that dog owners often consider their relationship with their pets to be as satisfying, or even more so, than relationships with humans. The research, published in Scientific Reports, involved 717 dog owners who rated various relationships on characteristics like companionship, intimacy, and reliability. Results indicated that while owner-dog relationships excelled in aspects like affection and reliability, they complement rather than replace human interactions, highlighting the unique bond between dogs and their owners.
The study suggests owners rate their relationship with their dogs as being as satisfying or more satisfying than their closest human relationships.
Our results showed that it [the bond] does not replace human relationships but offers something different, a unique combination of characteristics to complement what we receive from the human side of our social network.
