This 215-Square-Foot Paris Apartment Is the Ultimate Definition of a Hidden Gem
"[T]here was only one photo: a small corner of the apartment where I could see part of a green wall and a peep of herringbone floors. There were no more photos, but my gut said this was the one. Any apartment with green walls is okay with me!"
"It is quite a small apartment, but the layout and size are perfect for one person. The building used to be a hotel that the builders of Sacré Cœur Cathedral stayed in, and I believe you can see that in the architecture of each apartment. If you look closely, you can see how it was a hotel room: just one living space and a wall to separate the bed. The fireplace is covered now, but if you use your imagination, you can see the historic floor plan,"
"I am convinced this apartment was a hidden gem waiting for me, and I feel very lucky to live here. I can hear the bells of Sacre-Cœur every day, ringing at 7 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. I think back to the people who created the cathedral who once lived in the same space I do."
Textile designer Sara Wynn left Le Marais to find a less expensive neighborhood and settled in Montmartre. The apartment is compact and ideal for one person, featuring green walls and herringbone floors. The building formerly served as hotel rooms for the builders of Sacré Cœur, and the architecture still reveals that layout with a single living space and a partial wall for the bed. The fireplace is covered but the historic floor plan remains visible. Daily bell chimes from Sacré-Cœur mark the day. Furnishings and artwork were sourced from the landlady, flea markets, friends, and named paint and print selections are listed.
