Kelcy Warren, a Texan oil billionaire and chairman and largest shareholder of Energy Transfer, submitted plans in August to construct a private whiskey distillery at Castletown Cox Estate in County Kilkenny. Council planners approved the proposal, advancing the project. Castletown Cox is a Palladian mansion regarded as one of Ireland's finest. Warren purchased the estate in 2018 for €12.6 million. Energy Transfer is a US gas and oil pipeline firm valued at more than $56.5 billion (€48 billion). The development would locate a distillery on the estate grounds and represents a private investment in heritage property use.
