City Connect Real Estate Development proposed a 231-home project on 11.6 acres of vineyard land in Saratoga, including single-family homes, townhomes, and affordable units. The initiative responds to a housing shortage in the city, where a majority of homes are single-family and expensive. Approximately 47 homes within the project will be affordable, reflecting a focus on providing options for the 'missing middle.' Community reactions are mixed, with local residents expressing resistance to high-density housing developments. The project is currently undergoing environmental review before seeking City Council approval.
Thomas J. Wilson, CEO of City Connect Real Estate Development, stated, "When we returned from college, it was quite clear (moving to Saratoga) wasn't an option. (We were) totally priced out." This sentiment underlines the need for affordable housing solutions in high-cost areas.
Wilson emphasized that Saratoga's housing market is predominantly made up of 83.4% expensive single-family homes, pointing out that their development aims to provide variety in housing types to serve a broader community.
