"I think it's clear that this facility, including the restaurant... is going to be a large add to the public convenience and welfare of Los Gatos,"
"It's going to create a destination for eating, for shopping (and) create foot traffic."
RH, a luxury home goods company, proposes a restaurant and furniture gallery to occupy the vacant 15,957-square-foot space at 31 University Ave that formerly housed Steamer's The Grillhouse and Gap. The Planning Commission unanimously recommended granting a conditional use permit and voted 4-1 to allow facade changes that would convert the appearance from three storefronts into one continuous building. Commissioner Susan Burnett opposed the facade change to preserve corner charm. The Historic Preservation Committee earlier declined to support the architectural changes due to concerns about the historic district. Final approval rests with the Town Council.
