""We were moved in with the promise that we'd have it for a couple of years, so I spent a lot of time trying to make the house a home, and four months later, we were informed that the house was going to be sold with tenants in situ. "Four months later, we got told we had to be out of the house, so we were literally only there for eight months.""
""Where was I supposed to go?". "I was embarrassed putting it up," she said. "But I was desperate. I just wanted people to see what's really happening to renters like me in Dublin.""
""I've been renting in Dublin for about ten years and for eight of those I've been renting by myself,""
Aoife McGrath moved out at 19 and has rented in Dublin for about ten years, including eight years renting alone. She maintained good relationships with landlords but faced repeated instability when properties were sold and tenants were moved. One long-term home in Tallaght felt like the first real home, but the landlord sold and moved tenants into overcrowded accommodation that was then sold again, forcing another move. McGrath has struggled to find safe, affordable housing in Sandyford, and described widespread mould, overcrowding and fear of notices of termination that cause significant anxiety.
