Briefly

I decided to live in a build-to-rent community after buying a home. I'll never buy again.
"Earlier this year, I was looking for an apartment in St. Cloud, Florida, and I was only finding one-bedroom apartments in the $2,000 range. I was driving one day when I saw a sign that said, "Townhouses for rent." So I thought, "Let me drive in there and see." When I did, I saw that it was actually a townhouse community just for renters."
"The idea of having more space pushed me more toward the townhouse. I didn't want to live in an apartment and then have neighbors upstairs jumping on the floor at 2 o'clock in the morning. I thought that at least with the townhouse, I would get a backyard, a garage, and be a little bit more comfortable. I haven't had any major issues since I moved in August, and it actually feels like the home is mine."
John Santa Orta moved from homeownership to renting a build-to-rent townhouse in St. Cloud, Florida. He had been searching for apartments but found one-bedroom rents around $2,000, prompting him to explore townhouses for rent. The townhouse community offered more space, a backyard and garage, and the feel of a home without apartment noise or upstairs neighbors. He had owned a house with his girlfriend but could not afford it after their separation, so they sold the home. Renting provided stability and affordability that homeownership no longer did for him, and he expects he probably will not buy another home.
