"They began looking in Galway, as Kevin, a structural engineer from Roscommon, had secured a new job there. Before buying the 969 sq ft home, however, they called in to the people who were living in the nearest house and introduced themselves. "They'd actually renovated their own home and it was interesting to see what they'd done," says Ediana. "They were very welcoming and friendly. We thought it would be lovely to have them as neighbours.""
"They bought Lane's End, a two-bedroom Edwardian farmhouse, despite the fact that it was a little small for their family - they have two children, a son aged 13 and a daughter, aged 10. But they could see its potential. "We bought it with the intention of renovating the existing structure and extending it at the side," says Ediana. "It also came with three outhouses, which we considered converting.""
Ediana and Kevin Dolan sought a rural home with history and character after living in a housing estate and moving from Westmeath. Kevin secured a job in Galway, so they searched locally and selected Lane's End for its private lane access and location. The property is a 969 sq ft, two-bedroom Edwardian farmhouse that previously was rented to tenants. The couple bought it in 2021 despite limited size for their two children (son 13, daughter 10), with plans to renovate the existing structure, extend at the side, and consider converting three outhouses. The structure was sound but the interior required updating.
