He is professionally certified in place management by the International Downtown Association and serves on its board of directors."
Brian Kurtz will begin as chief executive officer of the San Jose Downtown Association in January. He will lead advocacy for marketing, public art, and clean-and-safe initiatives on behalf of more than 2,000 downtown members. Kurtz succeeds Interim CEO Alan "Gumby" Marques following Alex Stettinski's departure earlier this year. Kurtz intends to assess downtown conditions and community progress while preparing for San Jose's 2026 events. He has over 15 years of experience in downtown and place management, founded and led the Downtown Tulsa Partnership, secured city contracts for economic development and public-private infrastructure partnerships, and holds a master's in urban planning from the University at Buffalo.
